INFORMAL SMALL BUSINESS PRACTICE
The Certificate forms part of a learning pathway in the Wholesale and Retail sector that stretches from NQF Levels 2 to 5. While this Qualification focuses on the Small Micro and Medium (SMME) sector, it is structured in such a way that there is a progression from Level 2 to a qualification at NQF Level 5.
ROAD TRAFFIC LAW ENFORCEMENT
This qualification will provide the broad knowledge, skills and values needed for learners who wish to pursue a career in the road traffic law enforcement field. Learners achieving this Qualification will be deployable on the country's rural and urban roads either as provincial or metro traffic law enforcement officers. Learners will be provided with the theoretical knowledge and the practical competencies to be able to enforce road traffic laws on South African roads.
The purpose of the qualification is to enable qualifying learners to apply leadership competencies to ensure service excellence. Learners will develop competencies to utilise leadership skills to enhance service delivery in a specific sector or context.
The purpose of this qualification is to build a foundational entry into the field of Computer Sciences and Information Technology, specifically into the field of Systems Support, covering basic knowledge needed for further study in the field of Systems Support at Higher Education Levels.
The qualification can be acquired in the traditional way of formal study as well as in the workplace, through learnerships. Acquiring the qualification through learnerships has the potential of addressing the problems of the past, where newly qualified people getting into the industry struggled to get employment because they were required to have practical experience. The workplace experience can now be gained while acquiring the qualification through the various learnership schemes that are planning to use this qualification.
END USER COMPUTING
The purpose of the qualification is to build the knowledge and skills required by learners in End User Computing. It is intended to empower learners to acquire knowledge, skills, attitudes and values required to operate confidently in the End User Computing environment in the South African community and to respond to the challenges of the economic environment. The qualification addresses the need in the workplace for nationally recognised qualifications, based on unit standards, which will allow learners with workplace experience in End User Computing to obtain recognition for prior learning.
This certificate is aimed at developing specific competencies in a range of self-organisational and life-long learning skills with an in-depth knowledge of sport requirements and technical know-how applicable to a sport-specific context.
The qualification will enable the assuming of job responsibilities as a sports manager in schools, clubs and private institutions in a range of areas, which includes, but is not limited to sports team management, federation management or facility management. Learners will be exposed to establishing commitment, policy and planning to achieve racial, disability and gender equity through sports programmes whilst maintaining a safe environment for sports activities, events and tournaments within the selected operational environment and community.
The purpose of the qualification is to ensure competent professional driving competence in the road transport sector, thus improving earning capacity of professional drivers as well as transport sector professionalism and economic growth. The qualification is set to create an environment for growth and development of learners, by improving the employment prospects and marketable competence of drivers, and accelerating the redress of past unfair discrimination in education, training and employment opportunities. By setting the minimum standards contained in this qualification, professional driving education and training will also improve. The professional status of drivers of commercial vehicles will be enhanced by awarding a formal qualification in recognition of their professional competence. This qualification is designed to allow maximum access to, mobility and progression within education and training, and within a career path in the transport sector. Competence achieved in this qualification provides building blocks towards NQF level 4 qualifications, and the inclusion of communication and language, and mathematic literacy requirements contributes to learner development beyond simply the requirements for professional driving.
OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH & SAFETY
This Qualification is to equip learners working in any type of workplace with a broad understanding and knowledge of Occupational Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) concepts and practices with sufficient detail to enable them to function in a safe and healthy way and to deal with health and safety problems and issues. It will also contribute to the further development of learners within this environment by providing articulation, recognition and mobility within this dynamic and changing environment.
LABOUR RELATIONS PRACTITIONER
The purpose of the Qualification is to develop people who will be able to manage, resolve and help prevent labour disputes.
A large number of the competencies developed in the Qualification are rooted in actual workplace practice and should lead to greater productivity resulting from the improved performance by the learner, due to the integration of the knowledge mastered with workplace practice. Learners will be able to:
Facilitate fair and just labour relations in an organisation.
Manage and resolve labour disputes.
Initiate actions that could prevent labour disputes.
Implement management practices.
Consider and apply relevant legislation and Jurisprudence.
NEW VENTURE CREATION
The purpose of the Qualification is to develop the appropriate skills and knowledge required by a person for the establishment and development of a small to medium business venture and address the economic, administrative and behavioural (psycho-social) barriers that contribute to success in starting and sustaining the venture.
This qualification is intended for persons who wish to start, operate, manage and grow a new small to medium business venture. Learners attempting this qualification will be equipped with a variety of technical, business managerial and personal skills and strategies to help them succeed in the creation and sustenance of a business. The successful learner will develop a sound foundation for the application of these skills and knowledge to explore a diverse range of entrepreneurial opportunities.
The primary purpose of the qualification is to provide learners with:
A foundation of basic project management knowledge and skills which can be used to build further project management related competencies.
Competence to be an effective project team member.
Competence to provide administrative support to a project manager and team members.
Competence to provide assistance to a project manager of medium to large projects.
The safe handling of freight is dependant upon the applicable people complying with the relevant procedures and applying the necessary skills to their handling. This Qualification, therefore, is aimed at providing learners in the Freight sector with:
An integrated practical and theoretical grounding in Freight Handling.
The ability to work more effectively with others.
The skills necessary to maintain and enhance the level of service and quality of service expected by customers.
An awareness and understanding of key business principles that lead to transformation, transferability, economic growth and social development in the freight handling industry.
